Neshawn received her bachelor of music from the University of Memphis with a concentration in choral music. She obtained her masters in music education from the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga where she worked with and was mentored by distinguished composer, Roland Carter.
Neshawn is the vocal music director at Chattanooga High School Center for Creative Arts where she conducts six vocal ensembles. Her ensembles consistenly score superior ratings at regional and state festivals, as well as festivals abroad. Travels with her ensembles have included such places as New York, Orlando, New Orleans, Chicago and most recently Hamm, Germany. Neshawn provide her students with an education that exposes them to all musical genres as well as providing them with real world performance experiences. She was most recently named a Music Teacher of Excellence by the CMA Foundation in 2020.
A versatile performer, Neshawn is a singer of such genres as jazz, blues, classical, gospel and rhythm & blues. She is a frequent soloist in area churches. Neshawn has graced the stages of Riverbend, Nightfall, Levitt Amp Series and many other local festivities. In 2012 she traveled to Hamm, Germany where she performed a concert of jazz and blues to a sold out audience. Neshawn has also performed with the Chattanooga symphony on several occasions. As a choral director Neshawn conducts six vocal ensembles. Her groups have consistently scored superior ratings at local, regional and state festivals as well as festivals abroad. Neshawn has experience conducting major works with chorus and orchestra. She served as assistant director for the Chattanooga Choral Society for the Preservation of African American Songs for 10 years. Neshawn has also served as music director for several shows at the Chattanooga Theater Center.
